Mexico Vacation Villas Blog

Life in a villa on the beach in Mexico.
…a blog on “getting it done” in the Mayan Riviera… Life, Work and all the Guest Luggage!!!

I was one of those women that were taught that “you can have it all” watched way too much “That Girl” on TV growing up.  A single Career focused woman of the 80’s, working my heart out as one of the few woman engineers in Ford’s Engine Manufacturing Staff. Bringing home the bacon and frying it in my own pan, in my own house, a 60+ hour a week workaholic, traveling all over the world; wearing Jones of New York suits and pumps or a hard hat and safety shoes. Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t a women’s liber or even a feminist; I thought of myself as just one of the “guys” doing a job I loved.

15 years later…“Ouch” hit that glass ceiling; only it felt like concrete. What did I do? I Bought a Villa on a Beach... I talked my new husband, into moving to Mexico... Let some other engineer worry about “Quality”, I was done teaching the greenhorns,  I was tired of fighting Fords Politics, I was going far far away,  not an Automotive Plant in site!  I was bound for Margaritavilla, going to live with the Mayans; life and work would be so simple “Just salt shakers of salt” like the song right? Or so I thought.

It's been 10+ years now since my husband and I have lived in Playa del Secreto, Mexico. We own a restaurant, run a villa rental business and juggle what seems like 1000 balls. We love our life here, have met a lot of interesting people, been through a handful of Hurricanes, and have stories galore to tell at dinner parties: a life that seems exotic to some now has become the norm to us. We are here to stay!
